Public Learning Elements
This learning element introduces students to the concept of the world being a global village, and as such, societies being interconnected. They also explore the connectedness between the geographical features of different parts of the world and how and why people live in those areas.

Originally written by Chris Melican. It was updated in 2008 by the year seven team (Jo Larkin, Jane Offley, Elizabeth Edwards and Stefanie Pearce). This is the 2009 updated version which incorporates functional grammar.

During this unit students investigate natural disasters. They will research how these disasters are caused and how they affect the natural environment and people. Students learn about the ways emergency services respond to these events. They reflect on their actions in response to these disasters. Students will identify practical ways to reduce the impact of disasters on the community, animals and the environment.

Food labelling and dietary information provide us with the opportunity to make choices in our diet. Certain ingredients and food additives present in our food can impact our health and wellbeing.
